How To Do Better In Revised GRE - My GRE Prepration
Earning a graduate degree can hone your skills and net you a
promotion. It can boost your salary, too. The proof is in the paycheck: Four-year college
graduates earn about $51,000 a year, but those with advanced degrees earn
double that amount.
Before you cash in,
though, you'll need to understand how to study for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Many graduate degree programs
require that all applicants take the GRE, a
nearly four-hour test that assesses verbal, quantitative and analytical writing
skills. Graduate programs use the exam as a window into an applicant's overall
skill sets and consider GRE scores along with transcripts, resumes, letters of recommendation and other qualifications.
Doing well on the GRE can
require a good deal of preparation. Although the exam's designers say the it's
intended to measure only general ability -- meaning you shouldn't have to study
for it -- that doesn't mean it's a good idea to simply walk in on exam day and
hope for the best. This is especially true if you've been out of school for
several years or if you're applying to a competitive graduate program that
accepts a limited number of applicants. You may be unfamiliar with some of the
vocabulary and math skills on the exam, but will still need to earn the highest

EXPERIMENTAL QUESTIONS
The first step in
preparing yourself is to learn what to expect from the exam's format and
structure. The GRE has three types of
sections, and each has a time limit in which it must be completed:
Verbal: Two 30-minute sections
testing vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension skills. Question types
include text completion, sentence equivalence and reading comprehension.
Quantitative: Two 35-minute sections testing arithmetic,
algebra, geometry and data analysis skills. Question types including comparing
values, solving word problems and analyzing data. As of Aug. 1, 2011, a
calculator is permitted.
Analytical Writing: One section with two separately timed 30-minute
essays testing your ability to write clearly and effectively. The first asks
you to state and support your opinion on an issue, and the second asks you to
evaluate an argument.
In
most testing places, all sections of the GRE are taken on a computer and the
verbal and quantitative sections use computer-adaptive testing. This means that if you answer questions correctly, the computer will
give you harder questions that are worth more points. Answer them incorrectly,
and you'll get easier questions -- but getting them right won't boost your
score as much.

Why TOEFL, GRE Examinations Suspended Indefinitely In Nigeria
Education Testing Services, ETS, has suspended both the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) in Nigeria “due to security concerns.”
ETS is the world’s largest private nonprofit educational testing and assessment organization. It conducts examinations in almost all the countries of the world.
In a terse statement dated November 7, published on its website, ETS broke the news that both examinations have been suspended indefinitely in Nigeria.
The statement reads:
The organisation did not say the specific security threats it has come under. But the organisation may be acting proactively in the face of repeated attacks of educational institutions by suspected members of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
The GRE is a standardized test that is required for admission for graduate (Post-graduate) courses in the United States and business programmes, especially Master in Business Administration (MBA) worldwide.
The TOEFL is a test meant to test the English Language proficiency of non-native English language speakers wishing to enroll in United States universities and other English speaking universities and courses around the world.
As a result of this rather abrupt development, Nigerian students planning to write these qualifying examinations into colleges and universities abroad will be wise to start seeking alternatives.

What Is The Good GRE Score
Someone asked what is the good GRE Score For Get a admission. how much GRE Score bring me a scholarship?????
I just took my GRE's and I don't know what I got on my writing yet but I do know I got a 149/170 on Verbal and 141/170 on the Math. I have no idea if that's a "good" score. I'm applying to Emerson and Suffolk. I'm applying to Emerson's Creative Writing MFA program and Suffolks PR and Advertising MA program. Help?
A good way to see if your scores fit the institutions you are applying to is to explore their websites and find some sort of student profile. You can normally find one that highlights the middle 50% or the average GRE score for the incoming class. If you can't find that you could always ask as well. That way you you have a better handle on what your specific institutions are looking for. I took the old GRE but I would agree that if the percentiles reported by dendy are correct you more than likely would need to retake the GRE. Good luck!
I think more than 160 is considered good on almost every circumstance and for every major, unless you're applying to top schools where it may be a regular score.
I believe what midnight streetlight was implying was that you'll be able to see your percentile rank for each of the three sections, relative to other who sat for the exam. There is not, however, any within-section breakdown.
Some of the subject tests give you a higher resolution breakdown- I just took the Biology Subject Test, and I was informed of my total score/percentile and my score/percentile for each of the three major domains of biology (cell/molecular, organismal, and eco/evo).
Also- I would CERTAINLY recommend retaking the exam. Your scores indicate that 60% of the people who took the exam did better than you did in the Verbal section and that 89% did better than you on the Quant section... Study and retake.
